For intermediate guitarists

Move beyond the pentatonic rut.

Connect scales, chords and the fretboard—and turn familiar shapes into better solos.

ChordCurrent is a practice tool to use with your guitar in your hands. Choose a sound, start a backing loop and explore how your notes fit the chords you hear.

You know some shapes. Now make connections.

ChordCurrent is for intermediate guitarists who can already play some chords and scale shapes but want more freedom when playing lead. Use it to find notes beyond a familiar box, hear chord tones in context and understand how chords fit together.

Bring your existing guitar skills. There’s no course to complete: choose what you want to practice and spend your time playing.

Three ways to practice

  1. Practice: hear the harmony, explore your lead.

Choose a home note and scale or mode, select a progression, and press Hear the loop. Adjust the tempo and guitar, drum and bass sounds. Use the lead fretboard to see pentatonic positions, the full scale or current chord notes. Tap a note when you need a reference pitch, then try it on your guitar.

  2. Key & chord lab: build something to jam over.

Explore the chords in your selected key, hear them and inspect playable guitar shapes. Build a loop and listen to how changing a chord changes the feel. Take the progression back to Practice and play lead over it.

  3. Fretboard practice: find notes on your actual guitar.

Choose a string, starting note and circle of fourths or fifths. Set a comfortable time between notes, start the exercise and follow the reference pitches on your guitar. Show fret hints when you need them, then hide them as you become more confident.

A simple first session

Choose A Aeolian, start a loop at a comfortable tempo and select Pentatonic + 2 notes. Pick one position and make a short phrase. Repeat its rhythm, leave some space, and listen to how a different ending feels against the backing chords.

Why ChordCurrent exists

Knowing a scale shape doesn’t always tell you what to play over a chord progression. ChordCurrent brings the backing, chord information and fretboard into one practice space so you can explore those connections by playing and listening.

The focus is practical: less time navigating explanations, more time with your guitar.

Built by someone who was stuck, too.

I’m Henry. I spent a decade stuck in the intermediate stage before finding ways to study modes and practice that helped me move forward.

I built ChordCurrent because it’s the tool I wish I’d had ten years ago to help me get out of the pentatonic rut. I wanted a way to connect playing lead with understanding chords and building progressions to jam over.

That’s what this practice space is for: pick up your guitar, hear the harmony and explore how the notes fit together.
